The swatch is the superhero of knitting, it can save you from great dangers and has the ability to foresee the future. We asked a few friends to tell us about their love for the swatch and how it can change a knitter’s life. Today, Alexa from Tin Can Knits shares with us!
We love to swatch, but we do find the swatches themselves a bit… useless. Not in the information they give you, that’s super valuable, it’s more the finished product [a 6″ square(ish) piece of fabric], that leaves a bit to be desired.
Instead of a regular swatch we prefer the hat swatch. Emily and I are currently head-over-heels for colourwork and a hat is the perfect place to swatch for chart ideas, colour combinations, and of course, gauge. Our Strange Brew sweater pattern comes with some simple hat and cowl instructions so you can work out your ideas in a useful way before embarking on a garment!
