Feature Francoise

Today, we’re getting to learn a little bit about Francoise Danoy, the lovely designer behind Aroha Knits!

Not only does she design amazing little numbers such as the Maia Tee and the Ono Shawl, she also offers lots of advice and tools for fledgling designers.

Black or Brown?
Black.

Cats or Dogs?

Cats.

Knitting gadget you can’t live without:

Knitting needles! Ok maybe another answer is needed, blocking wires. They make such a huge difference in blocking.

Knitting style:

Right-handed throwing

Only one color for the rest of your life, which will it be?

Yellow.

Cables or Lace ?

Lace!

First completed project:

A circular cowl knit up in stockinette :-)

Number of wips  on your needle right now

None, surprisingly! I’m a monogamous knitter so I only really have one WIP on the needles at a time.

Favorite book not knitting related….:

Whale Rider by Witi Ihimaera

Something that changed your knitting:

Learning how to read charts! That allowed me to try projects and patterns that I was too scared to do before.

How did you learn to knit?

My mother taught me! I wanted to pick up knitting as a New Year’s Resolution.

Hidden talent:

I’m really good at Google. Need to find something online? Just ask me :-)

Wood or Metal?

Wood!

Coffee or Tea?

Tea!

Go-to favorite accessory when knitting a gift?

Shawls!

Most memorable project?

My ever first project – because it showed to me that I could see a project all the way to the end and not quit half-way through!

Morning person or night owl?

Morning person.

A place/country you wish to visit and why:

New Zealand – it’s my mother’s country.

Stitch pattern favorite(s):

Anything lace! And geometric color-work motifs.
